Who they are…The Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation was incorporated in 2005 to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. More specifically, it was organized to lessen the burdens of Merrill-area government through activities including, but not limited to, economic development, community preservation and development, and infrastructure preservation and improvement. It is also able to provide educational activities, and support for same, in the Merrill area including, but not limited to, leadership development, documenting and improving the quality of education in the community, and instruction of the public about Merrill’s heritage and the historic role of its downtown area. What they do…Current projects of the Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation are the Courthouse Christmas Tree Lighting Project, an annual project that the Foundation became involved with in 2006. A second project is the Downtown Light Post Flower Basket Project, a new project launched in 2007 which has grown into an even larger project stretching across the community and installing more than 100 flower baskets annually. The Foundation's latest project is Friends of Normal Park. Currently, the public can purchase engraved bricks for a walkway that will lead from a new gazebo being constructed in 2011. The gazebo project is being donated by the Lydia Baumann family to house the Merrill City Band which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2011.
